Our First Sail! SD to Ensenada

March 2018, we sailed our new-to-us sailboat to Mexico for the year. Our dear friend Steve Murray joined us the very first of journeys on Sea Bella. It was a calm, easy sail, we enjoyed it fully. Funny, after we pulled into the mostly empty Marina Coral dock, and registered at the office, the clerk exclaimed; You are first to finish the Newport to Ensenada Regatta! We didn’t even realize it was that weekend. The following hours hundreds of boats finished the Newport race and a huge party on the docks and Hotel Coral ensued.

The Journey Begins with a new boat

As we always say, “The best laid plans are drawn in sand at low tide”. We had planned to purchase a boat in 2019 but early January ’18, Scott logged in to the website; http://Yachtworld.com

We found her! The very boat we have been researching and searching over the last 4 years. There was only one other Brewer 44 in all the West Coast of California, actually a friend of ours on the boat SVHead Out.

Boat Renaming Ceremony

After the purchase of our boat, March 18th 2018, we got a visit from Zeus and he bestowed a blessing and honored us with a renaming ceremony.

Sacrifice to Poseidon from the fair Maiden

Our boat ownership story began with Zeus, God of the Sea. On April 27, 2018. Our dear friend, Denny Osburn, and his lovely wife Susan came to help us celebrate the renaming of our boat. Our boat was SV Yolo in her past life. She had lived and traveled with a young family in the Sea of Cortez. To honor her Zues made a special offering to Neptune and Poseidon. He gave champagne, special wisdom and friendship to brand our boat Sea Bella! The artwork and original boat decals were created by our good friend, Hobie sailor and artist; Deborah Swanson. Friends, like Mark and Becky Ashburn, came from afar to give blessings and cheers.
